As Wentworthville is a Carmelite Parish, it assists the Australian Carmelite Province in supporting the Carmelite parish of Zumalai, Timor Leste (East Timor). A part of the province, Timor Leste has been working to establish itself as a nation since it gained independence from Indonesia in 2001.
Fundraising from Wentworthville has contributed to the establishment and continuation of a number of vital projects. These projects have included the construction and improvement of education and medical services in the village communities the Carmelites serve, and the training of local people to become school teachers. The generous support of parishioners and friends makes a difference in changing people’s lives for the better. The parish East Timor Committee also helps to raise awareness within the parish of social justice issues.
